Kenya Aquatics Technical Director Omari in Mombasa Ahead of Much Anticipated Swimming Season by OWANG SINO

Kenya Aquatics Technical Director, Omari, has been spotted in Mombasa after overseeing the ASCA East Africa Coaching Certification Clinic, which drew over 230 coaches from across the region. His visit marks the beginning of preparations for the 2025–2026 swimming season.

Omari is expected to tour leading swimming clubs in the Coast Region, including Bandari, Mombasa Aquatics, Blue Ocean, and Mombasa Teens, as well as several schools. Speaking to the press, he emphasized the importance of the coastal region in Kenya’s aquatic sports landscape.

“Mombasa and the wider Coast are crucial stakeholders in national aquatic sports. They produce a significant number of swimmers who go on to represent Kenya internationally, and their contribution cannot be overlooked,” he said.

He noted that Mombasa has a strong tradition in open-water swimming thanks to easy access to the ocean. Of the newly certified ASCA coaches, about 20 hail from the Coast, underlining the region’s growing commitment to competitive swimming. Omari further confirmed that his tour will extend to Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Taita Taveta, and Tana River counties, where he plans to engage with local stakeholders.

He added that he looks forward to working with county leadership in Kwale to guide them through the official registration of county clubs with the Sports Registrar, a move aimed at strengthening governance structures in aquatic sports.

Meanwhile, Kenya Aquatics is intensifying its preparations for the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship, set for October 2025 at Kasarani. More than ten African nations have confirmed participation in the event.

Speaking from Romania, where he is officiating at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championship, Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri assured that plans are in motion to deliver one of the most successful editions of the Zone 3 competition.

Kenya, as host nation, will field two teams, with over 700 athletes, including masters swimmers, expected to take part. Marigiri highlighted that the championship will not only showcase swimming talent but also position Kenya as a destination for investment and tourism. Partnerships are being sought with government agencies including the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Tourism, Kenya Academy of Sports, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), and Magical Kenya.

He further revealed that top international sports brands such as Arena and Yingfa have shown interest in sponsoring the event, reinforcing confidence in Kenya’s growing reputation in the aquatics arena.
