Kenyan Schools Head to Kigali for Regional Sports Showdown
In a spirited show of sportsmanship, ambition, unity and youthful excellence, over 50 Kenyan student-athletes are preparing to make history as they head to Rwanda on April 3, 2025, to take part in the Kigali Mini International Games—a fast-growing multi-sport festival that’s reshaping the future of youth sports across Africa.
From swimming to skating, chess to Taekwondo, modern dance to archery, the Kigali Mini Games will become a launchpad for rising stars and a beacon of regional cooperation.
“Kigali is our newest stop, and the excitement around it is simply electric,” says David Weru, the passionate Coordinator of the International Mini Games. “We’re bringing together top talent from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda—and this is just the beginning. We expect more countries to join in future editions.”
The delegation features some of the country’s most vibrant institutions including Mustard Seed International School, St. Christopher’s School Nanyuki, Rusinga Schools, Lukenya Academy and St. Christopher’s School Karen. These schools have nurtured athletes who are not only physically prepared but mentally charged to represent Kenya with pride.
What sets this journey apart is its blend of sport and purpose. Beyond the pool lanes and arenas, the young athletes will take part in a sports tourism program, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, learning about Rwanda’s inspiring journey of healing, and experiencing the charm of Africa’s cleanest city, nestled in its iconic green hills.
The International Mini Games have evolved into more than a tournament—they are a movement. A celebration of hope, resilience, and unity through sport. And with the support of regional sports giants like Genesis Sports Limited, the largest wholesale and retail sports shop in East Africa, this initiative will slowly grow into a continental powerhouse of talent development.
As Weru reveals, two more editions are scheduled next term—in Kenya’s Coast in June, Runda in July, and a major showdown in Arusha this December. “The momentum is unstoppable,” he says. “We’re opening up opportunities, shaping futures, and giving Africa’s youth a stage to shine.”
So, as the young champions head to Kigali, they carry more than swim gear and sports kits—they carry dreams, determination, and the spirit of a generation ready to rise.
