Mt. Kenya Aquatics Bloc Closes Elite Training Camp with Eyes Set on National GloryBy:Sammy MainaAs the sun sets over the highlands of Nanyuki this Friday, so too will the curtains fall on one of the most spirited and high-octane youth swimming camps Kenya has seen in recent years. The Mt. Kenya Aquatics Bloc will officially wrap up its two-week high-performance training camp on April 18, 2025—marking a turning point for young swimmers who are now sharper, faster, and more focused than ever.

Hosted at the serene and state-of-the-art St. Christopher’s School in Nanyuki, the camp has drawn the region’s brightest swimming talents in preparation for the Kenya National Junior Swimming Championship, slated for May 3–4 in Kisumu. With over 45 elite teams expected to compete at the Aga Khan Primary School pool, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

But the Mt. Kenya Aquatics Bloc is not just showing up—they’re showing up prepared.

At the heart of this transformative camp is guest coach Paul Mungai from Nova Pioneer Tatu City Cambridge, whose expert touch has elevated the intensity and precision of the training. From explosive sprints and endurance drills to flawless turns, dives, and relay synchronization, no detail has been spared.

“I’m honored to have worked with this group,” said Coach Mungai. “What’s happening here is special. The swimmers have not only the talent but also the discipline and support system to go far. The level of parental investment in training equipment is phenomenal. If this momentum is maintained, Kenya is looking at its next generation of aquatic stars.”

The closing ceremony on Friday promises a touch of glamour, but also grit—a mini gala event designed to simulate the heat of competition and mentally gear up the athletes for the national stage.

Coach Bonte, one of the visionaries behind the bloc’s progress, is equally optimistic.

“I’m incredibly proud of these swimmers. Mt. Kenya Aquatics is made up of several clubs across the region, but when it comes to the national championship, we’ll be racing under one flag—Genesis Sports Limited,” he said. “I don’t want to say too much. We’ll let the stopwatch do the talking in Kisumu.”
