The Chairman of the Parliamentary Sports and Culture Committee, Hon. Dan Wanyama, today paid his first official courtesy call to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) offices, congratulating the new leadership and pledging closer collaboration between Parliament and the Olympic Movement in Kenya.During the visit, Hon. Wanyama reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to working with NOC-K in areas that directly impact athletes and the wider sports ecosystem, including governance, facility improvement, policy evaluation, and cultural preservation.
“Our committee has a constitutional duty to oversee and support the growth of sport in Kenya, from reviewing legislation to inspecting facilities and monitoring government-funded projects. Partnering with NOC-K allows us to ensure that athletes not only have the structures they need to thrive, but that sport continues to contribute to national unity, youth empowerment, and economic development,” said Hon. Wanyama.
President Shadrack Maluki welcomed the visit, noting that the strengthened partnership between Parliament and the Olympic Committee is key to preparing Team Kenya for upcoming international competitions such as the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, and future events beyond.
“NOC-K is committed to an athlete-cantered agenda that prioritizes welfare, training, and opportunities. Working with Parliament enables us to align our goals with national policy, ensuring that sport remains a tool for youth empowerment, health, unity, and economic growth,” said president Maluki Shadrack.
Also present were NOC-K 1st Deputy President Barnaba Korir, 2nd Deputy President Ttd. Colonel Nashon Randiek, Deputy SG Francis Karugu, Gender representative Doreen Okiri,Executive members Sasha Mutai and Joycelene Nyanbura.
